James Charles McMillan, 70, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999. Mr. McMillan worked with Progressive Roofing for about 40 years. He was also a farmer, cattleman, plumber, electrician, carpenter and mechanic. Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 24, at 11:30 a.m. in Faith Chapel Funeral Home in Pensacola. The Rev. Carl Sanders officiated, and burial was in Scotland Presbyterian Church Cemetery at Tunnel Springs with Faith Chapel Funeral Home directing. He is survived by his wife, Mahala Powell McMillan; six children, Frankie Cross of Arizona; Lisa Hatch of Texas; Maria Orlandini of Missouri, Ted McMillan of Pensacola, Jeff Bates of Tallahassee, Fla., and Pat McMillan of Georgia; two sisters, Judy Stabler of Fairhope and Pauline Kennedy of Pine Apple; and five grandchildren.

Bettie Ann Dudley

Bettie Ann Dudley, 89, of Coy died Friday, Nov. 19, 1999, in Camden Nursing Home. A native of Wilcox County, she was a homemaker and a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church. She was a member of the Usher Board and New St. Commandery No. 52 Brotherhood for more than 55 years. Services were held Friday, Nov. 26, at 1 p.m. in Mount Gilead Baptist Church at Coy. The Rev. W.G. Lett officiated, and burial was in the church cemetery with Jones' Unity Funeral Home directing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Mack Dudley; and two sons, Dan Jr. and Willie Lee. Survivors include two sons, Willie Matthews of Mobile and Mack Henry Dudley of Shreveport, La.; one daughter, Amelia Baldwin of Coy; one daughter-in-law, Helen Dudley; and 20 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Sandra Gaston Gibson

Sandra Gaston Gibson, 49, of Perdue Hill died Monday, Nov. 22, in Monroe County Hospital. A native of Conecuh County, Mrs. Gibson worked as a traffic operator for Alabama River Pulp Co. and was a member of Barbara Locklin Baptist Church at Perdue Hill. Services were held Friday, Nov. 26, at 2 p.m. in Monroe Chapel Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Henson officiated, and burial was in McConnico Cemetery at Perdue Hill with Monroe Chapel Funeral Home officiating. Survivors include her husband, Clarence Gibson of Perdue Hill; two daughters, Tricia Gibson Arnold of Cullman and Sandy Pryor Gibson of Monroeville; three brothers, George Gaston of Evergreen, Charles Gaston of Mobile and Stanley Gaston of Goodway; two sisters, Susan Gaston of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Fronell Gaston of Monroeville.

Anna M. Hodgson, 95, of Monroeville died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, in Monroe County Hospital. Mrs. Hodgson was a lifelong resident of Monroe County and a member of First Baptist Church of Monroeville. Services were held Tuesday, Nov. 30, at 10 a.m. in Johnson Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Wayne McMillian officiated, and burial was in Mineola Cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home directing. Survivors include two daughters, Louisa Hodgson Witherington and Joyce H. Egolf, both of Monroeville; one sister, Mattie Hayles of Mobile; and five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Rev. James Howard Shelley

The Rev. James Howard Shelley of Excel died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999. He was 77. Mr. Shelley graduated from Southwestern Bible Institute in Waxahachie, Texas, in 1953, and was ordained as a minister with the Assemblies of God in 1953. He pastored many churches throughout Alabama and Florida for 50 years. Services were held Wednesday, Nov. 24, at 2 p.m. in Excel Assembly of God. Officiating were the Revs. David Edwards, Roy Creamer, Cecil Turner, Lance Faylor, Jack Howell, Leonard Leverett, Kamaill Campbell, Morris Hyatt, Vaudie Lambert, Guy Mims and Glen Byron. Burial was in Excel Cemetery with Valhalla Memorial Funeral Home of Semmes directing. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Barr Shelley of Excel; four daughters, Claudia Shelley Walker of Brazil, Beverly Shelley Scribner of Panama City, Fla., Deborah LaJoyce Shelley of Excel and Kimberly Shelley Bush of Goodway; two sons-in-law, the Rev. Randall Walker of Brazil and the Rev. Paul Bush of Goodway; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Betty Shelley of Excel and John and Mary Ethel Shelley of Chickasaw; three sisters, Bedie McNiel and Luverne Shelley, both of Excel, and Lois Hines of Beatrice; and six grandchildren.

Lucy King Jones of Yellow Bluff died Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, in New York Hospital in Queens, N.Y. She was 86. She was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church at Coy. Services were held Saturday, Nov. 27, in Little Zion Baptist Church at Coy. The Rev. Edward Jones officiated, and burial was in the church cemetery. She was preceded in death by two sons, Cleveland Jones of Lansing, Mich., and James B. Jones of Westbury, N.Y. Survivors include 11 children, Rosalee Evans and Elizabeth Perryman, both of Birmingham, Curlee Jones of Coy, Fred Jones of Pensacola, Fla., Sarah Utsey Jones, Fannie Jones and Gwendolyn Little, all of Westbury, Freddie Jones of Los Angeles, Calif., Elmore Jones of Lansing, Mich., and Martha Finklea and Mary J. Henry, both of Detroit, Mich.; one sister, Rebecca McCall of Arlington; five sisters-in-law, Fannie King of Pine Hill, Essie Anderson of Mobile, Annie B. Winston of Los Angeles, Nancy Jones of Coy and Exie Jones of Cleveland, Ohio; three brothers-in-law, J.D. Jones and Blanche Jones, both of Coy, C.B. Jones of Los Angeles; and 65 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
